Every year on June 5th, World Environment Day unites millions of people in action for the planet. Established in 1972 by the United Nations, it's not just a day of celebration: it’s a powerful reminder: our environment is at a tipping point, and what we do today will shape tomorrow.

This year’s theme, “Beating Plastic Pollution”, calls attention to one of the most urgent environmental issues of our time. From oceans to forests to the food we eat, microplastics and overconsumption are choking ecosystems and endangering health and biodiversity.

What Does Terry Have to Do With It?

At Terry, we believe that the way we consume has a massive impact: not just on our wallets, but on our world. That’s why we built a platform that turns something most of us do every day, shopping, into a tool for restoring the planet.

When you shop through Terry, brands donate a percentage of your purchase to high-impact environmental projects. You don’t pay more. You don’t need to change your habits. But your actions help fund for example:

  • Reforestation projects with One Tree Planted

  • Ocean restoration via The Oceancy

  • Biodiversity protection with The Pollinators

  • Kelp forest regeneration, regenerative agriculture, and more

And we don’t partner with just anyone. While greenwashing is rampant, we only support projects that are verifiable, impactful, and aligned with long-term ecosystem restoration, not short-term carbon accounting.

Terry isn’t about consuming more: it’s about consuming better when necessary, and making that consumption count.

Overconsumption: The Problem We Can’t Ignore

World Environment Day also reminds us of a hard truth: our current levels of consumption are unsustainable. According to UNEP, we’re extracting 60% more resources from the Earth than it can regenerate and much of that goes into products we don’t need or use for long.

Plastic is just one part of this story. The bigger issue is systemic: a throwaway culture built on convenience, not consequence.

That’s why Terry doesn’t encourage unnecessary spending. We encourage mindful choices and when you do shop, to make sure it leaves the world better, not worse.

What You Can Do Today

You don’t need to wait for governments or big corporations to act. Here’s what you can do right now to honor World Environment Day:

Reduce single-use plastics — bring your own bag, bottle, and containers
Buy less, but better — support ethical, sustainable brands
Use Terry — let your shopping automatically support vetted climate action
Educate yourself and others — share facts, not fear
Support local projects or cleanups in your area

Small Action, Big Impact
