The CARE Climate & Resilience Academy trains the people who help vulnerable communities prepare for, adapt to and recover from climate impacts. Since 2019 it has turned CARE's decades of experience into practical courses, reaching thousands of practitioners across more than 60 countries.

Climate change is no longer a future threat. Communities around the world face floods, droughts, extreme heat, water scarcity and food insecurity, and the people hit hardest have usually contributed least to the crisis. Communities can adapt and grow more resilient, but they need local leaders and organisations with the right knowledge and skills.
Since 2019, the CARE Climate & Resilience Academy has equipped people with exactly those practical skills, tools and knowledge. Through learning journeys, expert-led courses and global knowledge sharing, it develops climate and resilience leaders who turn ideas into action. The courses are built directly on CARE's more than twenty years of experience in climate resilience and community-based adaptation. The Academy's global platform is publicly available, and thousands of users across more than 60 countries have used it so far.

Every person trained becomes a multiplier, bringing life-changing knowledge back to their community and organisation.
Climate impacts are felt locally, by real people, and often by those with the fewest resources to cope. Knowledge and skills are what turn good intentions into effective action, yet they do not always reach the front lines.
The impact lands unequally. Floods, droughts and extreme heat hit vulnerable communities hardest, while they contributed least to the crisis. Without support, recovery gets harder each time.
Knowledge does not always reach the front lines. Climate science is often discussed at a global, technical level, while the impacts are experienced locally. Practitioners need practical tools to translate risk into community-level action.
Skills multiply. When one practitioner learns how to strengthen resilience, whole communities benefit. But that multiplier effect only happens if the training exists and is accessible.

Since 2019, the Academy has grown into a global learning platform. In the past year alone, its online platform recorded around 1,720 active users, and its courses and materials have reached practitioners across more than 60 countries. The Academy combines in-depth Learning Journeys with flexible, self-paced courses, so that evidence-based climate adaptation is not just understood globally but applied on the front lines.
In early 2025 the Academy launched a self-paced course series on Anticipatory Action, shifting the focus from reactive disaster response to proactive, evidence-based preparedness, with a strong emphasis on gender-responsive and locally led approaches. The courses draw directly on CARE's field experience, including forecast-based action work in Bangladesh.
Imagine a local NGO worker in a drought-prone region. Through an online training, she learned how to help communities assess climate risks and design their own adaptation solutions. She now works with local women farmers to improve water management and preparedness. What began as one training opportunity now strengthens an entire community.
