For more than ninety years, Het Drentse Landschap has protected the nature and cultural heritage of Drenthe. From sweeping heathlands and old forests to stream valleys, historic farmhouses, mills and ancient dolmens: the foundation buys land and objects, manages them and keeps them open to everyone.

Stichting Het Drentse Landschap was founded on 11 June 1934 and has worked ever since to keep Drenthe beautiful and livable. It does so by buying and carefully managing nature areas and objects of cultural and historical value, and through education and awareness about the value of nature, landscape and heritage.
Today, the foundation cares for more than 10,000 hectares of nature, around 350 historic objects (from farmhouses and churches to mills and country estates), 22 dolmens and many archaeological objects such as burial mounds. The foundation wants broad public support for protecting nature, landscape and culture in Drenthe, and works towards this with residents, governments and partner organisations.

The Drenthe landscape is unique, with its heathlands, stream valleys, field complexes and old cultural history. But that landscape is under pressure, and without active protection its quality is lost.
Nature under pressure. Nitrogen, drought and declining water quality in Drenthe's streams put nature under strain. Recovery calls for targeted management and extra resources.
A fragmented landscape. Isolated nature areas are vulnerable. By buying and connecting areas within the National Nature Network, nature gets the room to recover.
Vanishing heritage. Rising costs and shrinking subsidies make preserving farmhouses, churches and mills fragile. Without maintenance, valuable history is lost.
If we protect the Drenthe landscape now, it stays for the generations who come after us.

Since 1934, Het Drentse Landschap has been building the protection of the province. In 2025 the foundation cared for more than 10,000 hectares of nature, around 350 historic objects, 22 dolmens and many archaeological objects. More than 15,500 supporters and around 550 volunteers help make that work possible.
Over the past year the foundation acquired almost 35 hectares of new land and opened the redesigned nature area Noordma near Zuidlaren, where a marsh delta was given room again. Het Drentse Landschap also chose to carry out heritage projects such as the restoration of De Lindenhorst near De Wijk in-house, to save costs and bring craftsmanship together.
Het Drentse Landschap works with the other Provincial Landscapes (united in LandschappenNL), with governments and with the people of Drenthe. Its work meets the CBF standard for recognised charities.

Stichting Het Drentse Landschap was founded in 1934 and is based in Assen, the Netherlands. The foundation is a Recognised Charity, supervised by regulator CBF, and holds ANBI status (public benefit organisation). It is also a certified nature manager (SNL certificate) and holds POM status for heritage conservation, granted by the Cultural Heritage Agency of the Netherlands. The foundation is a member of LandschappenNL, the network of twenty regional landscape organisations.
Your contribution goes, through the Natuurfonds Drenthe, towards securing and restoring Drenthe's nature. The annual reports are publicly available on the Het Drentse Landschap website.
